First Production Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 Rolls Out

Rollout of the first production Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 at Textron Aviation, Wichita

The first production Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 has rolled off the line at Textron Aviation's Wichita facility. Textron confirmed the milestone on October 20, 2026, calling it an important step as the aircraft moves toward entry into service.

The CJ4 Gen3 is the latest evolution of the largest jet in Cessna's Citation light-jet family, and its headline feature is safety: it will be equipped with Garmin Emergency Autoland.

The aircraft

Textron positions the CJ4 Gen3 at the top of its light-jet range, with the payload and range to match.

It offers a maximum range of 2,165 nm, seating for up to 11 occupants and a useful load of 6,930 lb. It will also carry Garmin Emergency Autoland, with entry into service expected in 2027.

Emergency Autoland lets the aircraft land itself at a suitable airport if the pilot becomes incapacitated, a capability that is now reaching the light-jet segment.

Where the programme stands

Two test aircraft have flown close to 1,100 flight test hours so far. Recent work has focused on hot-weather trials and certification testing of the electrical systems.

The rollout of the first production unit shows the programme moving from test articles to aircraft built for customers. Eric Cardinali, Textron Aviation's Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Operations, credited the manufacturing teams with turning design intent into a production-ready aircraft.

From launch to service

Textron announced its Gen3 light-jet family in October 2024: the Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3. At launch, the CJ4 Gen3 was expected to enter service in 2026. That target has since moved to 2027.

What it means for buyers and owners

With deliveries now expected in 2027, buyers looking at a new CJ4 have a clear choice to make: wait for the Gen3 and its Autoland capability, or move now on a current-generation or pre-owned CJ4.

For existing CJ4 owners, the Gen3's arrival is worth factoring into any decision to upgrade, hold or sell.
